Freaky Videos

YouTube will never cease to amaze me with its wide array of available videos. The videos for The Raven, which is a favorite poem of mine were both boring as I viewed them. Christopher Walken is such an intimidating actor and I thought that his version would be more intense. As creepy as his voice is, seeing his face was on the video probably would have been scarier than the photo of Poe. Being a huge fan of James Earl Jones I expected a bit more from his version. I was disappointed that there was not more of a resounding tone to his voice in certain parts of the poem and I actually found myself beign calmed and not really hearing the actual words. The Dickinson video was very bizarre and distubing, the poems description of death along with the visual of the speaking "photo" gave me the impression that the writer of the poem was dark and brooding. The biggest surprise of all was that I enjoyed the video of Whitman's "Oh Captain! My Captain!". The narrators voice, his tone, and inflection gave life to a poem that I otherwise did not enjoy. There was a great deal of feeling that came across in this version.
